Regular membership is available to health professionals, scientists and other interested individuals, working in the United States of America, or its territories or its Government Services who are concerned with or involved in pain treatment or research. Regular members receive all of the benefits of members and may vote and hold office in the society.

Each regular member shall be entitled to one vote.

Individual affiliated membership is available for individuals who have demonstrated a sustained interest in the mission of the Society, but who do not qualify for other classes of membership. Affiliate members receive all the regular member benefits but may not vote or hold office.

Individuals in the training phases of the health and related sciences may apply for student membership in APS. Student members will be asked to verify student status annually. Student members receive all regular member benefits except the rights to vote or hold office. Student members can also access the Journal of Pain online.
